On June 11, 2017 - Meet the residents of Campello 1917
Stroll "Main Street" and visit Campello at your leisure, chat with villagers of 1917 and learn about their life, their work, their children, their experiences. Open from 12 noon to 6 pm, at Nelson Park, Brockton. Visit well known 'buildings' of the day – at the Keith Theatre, learn about our Swedish immigrants and the movies shown here in their native language. See Model T cars of that era. At a typical tenement house, talk to the families who lived here then – and now. At the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of 1917, learn about the role of churches in the building of community. At the Huntington School, find out what it was like to be a student – and a teacher – in 1917. Visit nine 'buildings' in all, including the iconic WalkOver Shoe Factory. Along the way, visit crafters, see historic displays, try delicious treats and enjoy a Sunday in the Park - with George Keith. Presented by the Brockton Historical Society in partnership with the Keith Park Neighborhood Association.
UPDATE AS OF MAY 1: We now have 20 tents filled with fun! Lithuanians, Swedes, Irish, Italians, Haitian, Puerto Ricans, African-Americans, Cape Verdeans all will be sharing their stories and culture!
